Sometimes you’re reminded of why you do the things you do.

And my time at the Midwest Summer Conference at the French Lick Resort & Casino in Indiana was one of those reminders.

Luis isn’t always in the store like everyone else and sometimes, he sees even crazier sh*t than us.

Let’s take you back to last Friday. Here’s what happened… in his point of view.

It’s so busy… and it being a nice, spring day makes me want to leave work even more. But we can’t do that so here we are with hung clothes, tumbling washing machines, and Molly, who’s handling the counter.

I hope Hector will be ok handling the shop alone today. That poor kid is still shaken up from last month when he thought a client left a brick of cocaine in their suit pocket.

I think about what if

I’ve seen a lot of weird things.

I once thought that I laundered hundreds of dollars (I didn’t); had a pants-less customer in my store because he wanted his pants hemmed (he took the “Drop Your Pants Here” sign too literal) and had a father find out his daughter wore panties that said “Crime Scene” (awkward moment). And, of course, today was another one of those days.

“I’m in love with Juliette.”

In 2020 – like many people – we didn’t know what the future held for us. We suffered huge losses in that year and in 2021. But, 2022 put us right back on track. The comeback is always greater than the setback.

“Are you almost ready?!

I rummaged through my clothes as I gripped onto my cell phone, “Uhhh,” ew that’s ugly, why do I still own that? It’s too cold for that “Y-Yeah!” I fibbed as the hangers scraped against the metal pole.

Finally… my shift is almost over.

It’s already so late and I can’t wait to just get back home. Tomorrow’s my day off.

There’s not a lot of people here right now – thankfully – maybe about six people – all couples. They’re all almost done.

The lights are dimmed. The velvety walls and dark-stained floor makes it feel homey.

I still don’t know what I’m wearing. But it’s not even like it matters. I mean, it’s just Thanksgiving dinner with my family.

It’s starting to get cold out. Especially being in New York.

Why is it already so gloomy.. and foggy.. and cold? I wish I was back in San Francisco, but whatever… I’m here for my brother’s wedding so I guess I gotta get through it.
