It’s eight in the morning and this is one of the first texts I get. Why so early?!

I think about what if

I’ve seen a lot of weird things.

I once thought that I laundered hundreds of dollars (I didn’t); had a pants-less customer in my store because he wanted his pants hemmed (he took the “Drop Your Pants Here” sign too literal) and had a father find out his daughter wore panties that said “Crime Scene” (awkward moment). And, of course, today was another one of those days.

In 2020 – like many people – we didn’t know what the future held for us. We suffered huge losses in that year and in 2021. But, 2022 put us right back on track. The comeback is always greater than the setback.

“Are you almost ready?!

I rummaged through my clothes as I gripped onto my cell phone, “Uhhh,” ew that’s ugly, why do I still own that? It’s too cold for that “Y-Yeah!” I fibbed as the hangers scraped against the metal pole.

Finally… my shift is almost over.

It’s already so late and I can’t wait to just get back home. Tomorrow’s my day off.

There’s not a lot of people here right now – thankfully – maybe about six people – all couples. They’re all almost done.

The lights are dimmed. The velvety walls and dark-stained floor makes it feel homey.

I still don’t know what I’m wearing. But it’s not even like it matters. I mean, it’s just Thanksgiving dinner with my family.

7:00 AM - 12 HOURS BEFORE

It’s starting to get cold out. Especially being in New York.

Why is it already so gloomy.. and foggy.. and cold? I wish I was back in San Francisco, but whatever… I’m here for my brother’s wedding so I guess I gotta get through it.

It’s getting late.

I’ve lived in my apartment for over a week now and I still haven’t done my laundry. I mean… Look at it: the white hamper is filled to the brim and my light pink underwear is just seconds from hitting the floor.

“Ugh,” I say to myself as I continue scrolling on my phone.

Then – of course – an ad for a nearby laundromat appears on my Instagram: “OPEN 24/7!” it reads in colorful text.
