“Are you almost ready?!

I rummaged through my clothes as I gripped onto my cell phone, “Uhhh,” ew that’s ugly, why do I still own that? It’s too cold for that “Y-Yeah!” I fibbed as the hangers scraped against the metal pole.

Finally… my shift is almost over.

It’s already so late and I can’t wait to just get back home. Tomorrow’s my day off.

There’s not a lot of people here right now – thankfully – maybe about six people – all couples. They’re all almost done.

The lights are dimmed. The velvety walls and dark-stained floor makes it feel homey.

I still don’t know what I’m wearing. But it’s not even like it matters. I mean, it’s just Thanksgiving dinner with my family.

Sabrina who’s convinced she’s a wizard in Harry Potter

Uncle Gary and his train collection

Aunt Julie and her shopping problem

7:00 AM - 12 HOURS BEFORE

It’s starting to get cold out. Especially being in New York.

Why is it already so gloomy.. and foggy.. and cold? I wish I was back in San Francisco, but whatever… I’m here for my brother’s wedding so I guess I gotta get through it.

It’s getting late.

I’ve lived in my apartment for over a week now and I still haven’t done my laundry. I mean… Look at it: the white hamper is filled to the brim and my light pink underwear is just seconds from hitting the floor.

“Ugh,” I say to myself as I continue scrolling on my phone.

Then – of course – an ad for a nearby laundromat appears on my Instagram: “OPEN 24/7!” it reads in colorful text.

And I’m not just talking about romantic relationships — but between a boss and a worker too.

Rechelle was using different cleaners and would call them to ask if they could pick up and deliver her laundry. Sometimes they would come, sometimes they wouldn’t. It was really inconsistent.

That experience sparked the idea for JULIETTE. Because she had no way of tracking her order, she would often feel stressed that something had gone wrong. Her laundry was often getting back to her late, or a delivery person would not show up at all.

As opposed to many other laundry and dry cleaning companies, we have opted out of using wire hangers. Instead, we use black velvet hangers.

It’s a noun that dates back to the 20th century and is a business that flourished for years. And though there are only 19 Chinese laundromats left in New York City, their history can’t be ignored because the art of Chinese Laundry is what the dry cleaning and laundry industry were built on.
